Forgotten Shadows describes itself as a truth-seeking group. Their focus is on uncovering hidden truths and dark secrets, showing the ‘true world’ to the general public. Above all else, they claim to desire to help others more than they hurt them. They invariably release any information gained through their operations in the name of transparency. This has put them at odds with a variety of other factions, corporations, and individuals.

The faction is privately funded by their members, but the majority of their funds are provided by their founder. The origin of this founder’s wealth is not publicly known, a fact that is at odds with the actions and stated goals of Forgotten Shadows. This faction has a large general membership, with a much smaller number of individuals in positions of power or influence.

Lower-ranking members of Forgotten Shadows are granted near-autonomy to complete the goals provided by higher-ranking members. Often, members will form groups of their own volition to complete tasks. The structure of the faction is similar to an orchestra or chorus- there is one individual in charge of a much larger group, who gives general direction as to the course of their actions. Each individual is responsible for a role which they are already familiar and comfortable with prior to beginning an operation.

Forgotten Shadows stores their information on disparate storage nodes, each individually secure. This can result in a lower response time from the faction at times, but serves to protect their information well. Offline security is minimal, however the general public seems to regard the faction more or less positively. The goodwill of those around them affords some level of physical security for individual members.
