Null & Void typically targets corporations and political leaders whose corruption affect the general public. They rarely directly leak information, instead preferring to work through anonymous drops to media outlets, or even feeding the information to another faction. Their goal is to end the privatization and monetization of information, especially if it could be used to harm the general public. While they understand the need for personal privacy, they also have been involved in the doxxing of high ranking officials and other public figures.

The group is entirely self-funded by its membership, and as a result often has to work within tight budgetary constraints. Members typically provide their own hardware for faction operations, and are generally very resourceful. Null & Void is large, but the number of ‘active’ members at any given time is usually much smaller. Members may become inactive for long periods of time before reconnecting with the faction.

In contrast to many other “hacktivist” groups that have risen to prominence throughout history, Null & Void is largely comprised of women, people of color, and members of the LGBTQ+ community. Their members are also typically young, between 20 and 30 years old. Typically, members are recruited by the group by being offered a job. If they perform well, they’re offered a position in the faction. The overall structure of the faction is fairly loose-knit. The leadership of the faction is kept mostly in shadows, with an individual acting as a messenger between them and the general membership.

From a security standpoint, Null & Void is fairly vulnerable. Members typically engage in off-net activism as well as digital “hacktivism”, which can put them at risk of being intercepted by law enforcement. Data for the faction is stored in a decentralized encrypted cloud, hosted on personal servers of faction members. They have also been known to use blockchain-based technologies for internal communication.
